Adlerturm belongs to the former city fortification from which
except this tower only few wall leftovers are held up. The tower
was built at the end of the 15-th century on the upstream directed
southeast corner of the Old Town.
It concerns one of the most splendid Late-Gothic military towers
in the Middle Rhine of emphatically representative effect.
19-th century an inn called “Zum Adler” from
whom the name is derived, was located in the tower. Goethe has
taken accommodation in this inn several times during his Ruedesheimer
stays, admiring the marvellous view of the Rhine.
